my tiny cottage built in 2011-2012.
the facts:
• i created the 480 sq ft (with a 120 sq ft loft) floor plan.
• my grandfather along with a few friends + family constructed the house in 6 months.
• i harvested + used as many recycled materials as i could find.
• passive solar was implemented through out the design (south facing picture window, stratigically placed windows + doors for airflow + light...)

why i built a tiny home-
i am a bird, half winged, half rooted. for years i had been attempting to balance the nomadic + home life.
i love flight + i love nesting. i love the unknown + i love tradition. i love the wild scents of spices + teas in the outdoor markets along canals as much as i love the familiar scents of sage stuffed turkey cooking in my grandmothers kitchen for thanksgiving.
i attempted this balance by traveling for a few months then returning home to a rental then repeating for about 7 years. it was a bit of madness for i hardly had any money (once i left with a one way ticket + $100 to my name) + i felt paying rent was an endless unnecessary so i purchased a piece of land + built a tiny home. i could be free of mortgage in a few years, which would provide more freedom to travel, while still having a home base.
the beautiful balance- nest + flight.
